What is Poverty?

Julian Green
Post#4
ENG 111
Being in poverty is not about being broke all the time. Its about being so stuck between that rock and a hard place that hope of getting out seems impossible. The mother of the three children wants money, which is the rock, but is mostly hurt by her pride, the hard place.  It is because of her pride dwindling down that she cannot see reason to go on, to feel hope. She says "You are again told to wait.  You are told why, but you don't really hear becaus eof the red cloud of shame and the rising cloud of despair." She feels like her asking for help is full of shame. There was once a time she did have money, but now she is reduced to asking for serious help. Having to explain her situation over and over again is a huge blow to her self esteem, therefore making the rock and the hard place close in on her.  Poverty is being trapped.
"You have asked for help, and after all it has a cost."
